How to Take
  • Take amlodipine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
  • Possible need for control of weight and diet, especially sodium intake
  • Missed dose: Taking as soon as possible; not taking if almost time for next scheduled dose; not doubling doses
  • Elderly may be more sensitive to the hypotensive effects of amlodipine and may require a lower initial dose.
  • Safety and efficacy have not been established in children younger than 6 years old.
Dosage and Administration

Usual adult dose

Hypertension: Oral, 5 to 10 mg once a day

Usual pediatric dose
Children younger than 6 years of age: Safety and efficacy have not been established.
Warning & Precautions

Before taking this medicine
  • Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or any of the components of the product
  • If you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding
  • If you are taking other medication, especially
Anesthetics, inhalation
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Beta-adrenergic blocking agents
Estrogens
Highly protein-bound medications such as anticonvulsants, anticoagulants
Hypotension-producing medications
Sympathomimetics
  • Other medical problems, especially
Hypotension, severe
Aortic stenosis
Congestive heart failure
Hepatic function impairment

Precautions while using this medication
  • Checking with physician before discontinuing medication; gradual dosage reduction may be necessary.
  • Recent evidence suggests that withdrawal of antihypertensive therapy prior to surgery may be undesirable.
  • Maintaining good dental hygiene and seeing dentist frequently for teeth cleaning to prevent tenderness, bleeding, and gum enlargement.


Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • FDA Pregnancy Category C
  • Breastfeeding: It is not known whether amlodipine is distributed into breast milk.
Side/Adverse Effects
Incidence more frequent: Edema, peripheral
Incidence less frequent: Dizziness, palpitations
Incidence more frequent: abdominal pain; flushing; headache; somnolence
Incidence less frequent: fatigue; nausea
Storage
  • Store this medication below 30˚C and away from light and moisture. Store this medication in a well-closed container.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
